Double Exposure

Toby loved his local church; a ‘regular’ was he,

No one could accuse the man of inconsistency

And, when the collection plate appeared, he gladly paid his way

To keep building going as a place to praise and pray.

Churches needed men like him, how else could they survive?

His regular attendance guaranteed the church would thrive.

Decline in church attendances could easily be solved

If there were more of Toby’s sort, committed and involved.

He loved the smell of polish and the flagstones on the floor,

And the choir and the candles and the hymns and so much more.

He really loved the Festivals: the joy of Easter Day,

The carols sung at Christmastide. How could he stay away?

His regular attendance was a duty as was clear.

And, regular as clockwork, he attended, twice a year.
