Ronald was the thinking kind,
An egghead some would say,
A man of independent mind,
More scientifically inclined
Than some who go to pray.
He paid lip service to the Creed
But sense could not be fooled
Life after death fulfilled a need
But death was final, most agreed
Who’d been by logic schooled.
But scientists enjoy a test
And, since his wife believed,
He said, “When death your life has blessed
If you return from blissful rest,
My doubts will be relieved.
A brief appearance would suffice
And all my hopes retrieve.
Come back, just once, to reassure
And then I shall believe.”
“Return?” she said, “I doubt it dear,
For if the bible’s true,
Its promises are crystal clear,
here will, unlike my time down here,
Be better things to do!”
