Ready, Steady, Cook

A recipe in rhyming verse

If you’re a bachelor like me

You’re sure to love this recipe.

Here’s what you need: a grill, a ring,

Some bread (white sliced is just the thing),

Baked beans (shops sell them by the tin),

And that’s your lot. Time to begin:

Prize off the lid (use anything)

And place the bean tin on the ring.

This done, you’ll find there’s time to kill,

So stick the bread beneath the grill

(Remembering not to turn your back

Unless you like your cooking black).

When flames appear the meal’s complete.

Now serve it up and sit to eat

Rejoicing in the right to boast

Of having mastered Beans on Toast.
